PennyWise provides users the ability to track financial information in the following
categories on a monthly and annual basis at the same time:
• Income
• Housing
• Automobile
• Food
• Healthcare

• Extracurricular
• Financial
• Other (Miscellaneous)
• Credit Card Payments |
These categories are further broken down into
sub-categories specific to the parent category. The default sections and their categories can be seen below:
You can also add categories to any of the above sections
so that your copy of PennyWise becomes tailored to meet your needs.
No longer do you need to worry about whether the expense you just
incurred belongs in a category that doesn't make sense to you.
To get the most out of PennyWise, simply define the
categories that make sense to you (for both expenses as well as income) and then enter your
expenditures every few days. The total money spent will
automatically be calculated and subtracted from your income so you will
know in an instant whether you need to curtail spending (or can afford to
purchase that new television this month). If you decide to modify your
budget, all you need to do is update the appropriate values and the rest
of the spreadsheet will automatically be updated to reflect the change.
You can also setup recurring entries so that you don't
forget to enter automated expenses (or your paycheck). You'll no
longer forget to add your gym membership bill or your insurance bill to
PennyWise. This not only saves you time, it also saves you from
exceeding your monthly budget and ending up in the red!
After you've used PennyWise for a while, you can immediately see at a glance how you're doing on your
spending and determine what changes need to be made.
For example, if you decide to switch from cable to
satellite television (or forego pay-television altogether), simply update the
appropriate row with the new amount and this will be reflected throughout
the spreadsheet.
The link below will download a fully functional copy of of
Budget. However, until you purchase a license, you will only be
allowed to enter up to $1000 worth of expenses.
When this threshold has been met, in order to continue to use your copy of
Budget you'll need to purchase a license. Once you've
purchased Budget, you are free to use it each year as a means of tracking
your spending over time. You do not have to buy a new copy each
year.
• PennyWise is an Excel-based spreadsheet. If
you have Excel XP or 2003 installed on your computer, you can run
PennyWise on your computer.
• PennyWise makes extensive use of macros available
within Excel. In order to use PennyWise, you will need to set
your macros security setting to Medium (at the very least).
